Lt. James Doohan served in the 22nd Battery, 13th Royal Canadian Artillery. He was accidentally shot by one of his own men on the night of June 6, 1944 while checkibng his lines. He was tardy in giving the reply password and was shot 6 times by a nervous sentry. Four times in the leg, once in the chest, and once in his hand which blew off his middle finger.
